Mullet Review Milestone: Hot Blonde Tackles 100 Buffets and Counting
I've been following this fella for a long time now. Over the course of 110 days, to be exact. Brandon Elliott, a postal worker turned buffet expert from the Cincinnati area, has been on quite the epic journey. He explains it at the beginning of every video.
Brandon, AKA "Hot Blonde," is on a mission to eat at a Chinese buffet every day or until he gets food poisoning. His channel "Mullett Review" now has 560,000 followers on Facebook, 1.3 million followers on TikTok, and over 100,000 subscribers on YouTube. We all watch with bated breath to see whether the crab rangoons are "goonin" or not.
Recently, on his 99th buffet visit, we were all VERY CONCERNED that the Everything OK Chinese Buffet and Mongolian Grill in Frankfort, Indiana, might be the one that takes Brandon out. The raw "peanut chicken" and mystery white fish in water were a serious gastrointestinal gamble.
Miraculously, no mullet was harmed in the making of that video. Even though Brandon's taste buds were assaulted, he lived to tell the tale and continue his quest. To my knowledge, he has been to Ohio, Tennessee, North Carolina, Kentucky, and has made the rounds in Indiana. Now, he's in Fort Worth, Texas.
It's interesting to see the variety (or lack thereof) of food served in the different states. Brandon also gives an overview of the cleanliness and ambiance. He reviews everything from the little vending machines found at the entrance (gumballs apparently have an infinite shelf life) to the condition of the bathrooms, which are often...not great.
Something that has become funnier than expected is how Brandon shares the price of every buffet. He's been traveling with his mother or his girlfriend, who help film the experience. So, every video includes how much he paid, and he makes sure to include that is......"for two people." Somehow the pause between the price and "for two people" gets longer and longer and more awkward.
A lot of his humor is awkward but in a hilarious way. We also learn how many stars each restaurant has on Yelp, and then Brandon shares whether he would agree or change their score. I, for one, appreciate his boots-on-the-ground journalism when it comes to his food reviews. His dedication to the public service he provides. Literally risking his life. Or at least his short-term health, so we can all know whether a buffet is worth visiting.
I may never go to Fort Worth, Texas, but I take comfort in knowing that if I ever find myself there, I know exactly which Chinese Buffet I will not be going to. Although this one is not as bad as some I have seen on Mullet Reviews.
From the reputation buffets have of causing food poisoning, you would think one of the restaurants would have taken the hot blonde out by now. Either Brandon has a stomach of steel, or the rumors are not true regarding the health and safety of communal crab rangoons. I'll be keeping tabs on him regardless along the way! What about you? Do you follow Mullet Reviews?
