Louisville True Crime Comes to HBO in Murder in Glitterball City
One of my favorite drag queens, Lexi Love, from Louisville, KY shared something the other day that caught my attention. She is going to be in an upcoming documentary:
I am a SUCKER for true crime. Mix in some disco balls with all that drama, and sign me up. Say less and mark the calendar for February 19th when Murder in Glitterball City is set to stream on HBO Max.
Glitterball City is one of Louisville's many nicknames because of its sparkly past. Once upon a time, Derby City was also Disco City! Did you know that during the 1970s, 90 percent of disco balls around the world were manufactured in Louisville, KY?
The story of this HBO Documentary is anything BUT sparkly. I honestly CANNOT believe I never heard of this before. I lived in Louisville while going to school and moved back to Owensboro right before it apparently happened. Smack dab in the middle of Old Louisville, a body was found in a mansion on 4th Street.
After the incident, Louisville author David Domine pieced the details of the case together and released "A Dark Room in Glitter Ball City: Murder, Secrets and Scandal in Old Louisville." You can read more about that in a wonderful story by the Courier Journal here.
Adding this to my "TBR list ASAP." Emmy Award-winning filmmakers Fenton Bailey and Randy Barbato (Paris is Burning, RuPaul's Drag Race) bring this gruesome story to the screen as the city of Louisville itself becomes a character in the tale. If you haven't seen it yet, here is the trailer:
I love the part where the woman was being filmed talking about the murder, but still had to stop and say "hi" to her neighbor. Such a Kentucky thing to do! And was that the legendary Hurricane Summers?! I am counting down the days until this is released. Is anyone else as intrigued as I am? We are READY for the piping hot tea. This looks gooooooood.
