Kentucky Shelter Receives Donation From Country Star Miranda Lambert
Just like all of us at the radio station, Country Superstar Miranda Lambert is a huge animal lover. Her rescue dogs and cats are her pride and joy.
She started an organization called Mutt Nation with her mother back in 2009 with a mission to help rescues and shelters across the country as they work to save all kinds of furry friends, provide medical care, and find forever homes for them.
It would be easier to list what Mutt Nation doesn't do than name all of the initiatives Miranda and her folks put their hearts and souls into. The Dog Aging Project researches genetics and environment to help improve quality of life as pups get older. It Takes Balls, a spay and neuter program, and of course, raising money and distributing grants and financial assistance to shelters.

Grants to new shelters just opening, relief funds to repair after natural disasters and Mutts Across America, an annual giving collaboration with Tractor Supply Company. Each year, $5,000 is given to a shelter or rescue in every state. According to the Mutts Nation website,
"Organizations are carefully researched and vetted before honoring one outstanding nonprofit in each state. Shelters are surprised with the grant, and there is no application process.
Since the initiative’s inception, MuttNation’s Mutts Across America has supported more than 350 shelters with over $1.8 million in grants. To continue to support MuttNation and Tractor Supply’s efforts, check out the pet product line, complete with toys, food, bedding and more exclusively available at Tractor Supply."
This year, Kentucky's recipient is the Bowling Green/Warren County Humane Society. This shelter in South Central Kentucky is one of the best in the state. They have facilitated thousands of adoptions, free and low cost vaccines and spay/neuter opportunities, and more. With this generous donation from Miranda's Mutt Nation, they'll be able to continue their mission of improving lives furry and otherwise "'til they all have a home."
