Have you all seen the two lion statues on Griffith Avenue in Owensboro that wear different costumes for holidays and seasons changing?

Fun fact, my mother is the creative genius behind them! Not only does she come up with all of the ideas, but she works through the logistics of how to make it happen. Most of the time, the pieces and parts of the costumes are bigger than she is with bulky materials and lots of wire to hold it all together.

Her idea this month for Halloween, however, is my least favorite she has ever brought to life. It actually brings back a pretty traumatic memory from my childhood. I know I'm not the only one who isn't a fan of clowns.

Most children don't really start to record memories until between the ages of two and four years old and my earliest memory is me screaming my lungs out in the basement of our home on my birthday.

My mother planned the most amazing birthday parties for me. Going ALL OUT on decorations, cake, activities, etc. and this party was no different. Except she had no idea that her daughter would be absolutely terrified of the clown theme she chose.

So she invited all of my little friends AND a crew of clowns to come and do tricks, make balloon animals, and take pictures. I took one look at their makeup and was TOTALLY freaked out so much so that I started screaming and crying. My dad had to take me down to the basement to play with my Barbies and pretend my biggest fears weren't partying upstairs.

I was told everyone had a wonderful time, and I remember the cake being delicious at least.

So don't mind me if you hear of a woman wrecking her car on Griffith Avenue because she had to close her eyes on the block with the lions. I think I may just have to avoid going that way entirely for the month of October.
