Move Over Comic-Con…Kentucky’s Getting Its Own ‘Dam Con’
You might think San Diego's iconic Comic Con, which launched in 1970, was the birth of the "con" as we know it today. It's what I thought. But you'd have to go back another six years for what's considered the true birth of comic conventions. Soon, Kentucky Dam Village will be a part of that history.
The Birth of Comic Conventions
Did you know the San Diego event can't even claim the term "comic con"? In 1964, New York City was the site of the first one. It was called New York Comicon, and it was a small affair with few special guests. Most of the early ones were small, and then San Diego happened, and the concept took flight from there. Today, there are cons for everything, from cat cons and horror cons to furry cons and tattoo cons, and every con in between.
Dam Con
So it's high time for Dam Con, a new event coming to Kentucky Dam Village, and, yes, it is a comic convention. Not everyone can get to the San Diego event, so here you go, and what a setting, right?
When Is Dam Con?
On Saturday, April 25th, scores of comic book lovers will descend upon the Kentucky Dam Village Convention Center looking for treasures. They'll be joined by those scoping out rare trading cards, sports cards, and toys. There will be pop culture vendors and trading card games. There will also be special guests, although they have not yet been revealed.
Also, they're still adding vendors to this inaugural event. If you're a vendor or just a prospective visitor, TheDam.com is a site you should bookmark.
