Yes, the Grammy Awards are over, but I discovered that a band from Kentucky was nominated for Best Metal Performance.

Knocked Loose is from Oldham County, less than 30 minutes from Louisville. The band was formed in 2013 and first went by the name Manipulator. They changed the name when they learned another band had the same name. Their sound is described as "hardcore punk" rather than metal, but there's a lot of screaming, which I hear as metal. However, it's not exactly the heavy metal I grew up listening to and still listening to.

Also in the Best Metal Performance category was this song and, they won:

The French metal band Gojira performed during the Paris Olympics opening ceremonies. All I can remember is the opening visual, which surprised me. There were plenty of viral moments from the games, but opera singer Marina Viotti's head was it for me. It's certified nightmare fuel.

Four artists/groups at the 67th Grammy Awards represented Kentucky, including Chris Stapleton, who won his eleventh overall Grammy in the Best Country Solo Performance category for "It Takes a Woman".

Bowling Green's Cage the Elephant was nominated for a fourth time this year in the Best Alternative Music Performance category; they lost this year but have two Grammys, both for Best Rock Album.

Bluegrass fiddler Michael Cleveland who already has a Best Bluegrass Album Grammy was nominated this year as part of an ensemble (Béla Fleck Featuring Michael Cleveland, Sierra Hull, Justin Moses, Mark Schatz & Bryan Sutton) that was nominated for Best Arrangement, Instrumental, or A Cappella for "Rhapsody in Bluegrass".
