This Quirky Henderson ‘Hidden Gem’ is a Vintage Lover’s Dream
Today, I took the morning show on the road for the Sandy Lee Watkins Songwriter's Festival to interview some of the musicians performing this weekend. We spent the morning at The Elm in Downtown Henderson listening to stories and songs. It's always a great time.
The Elm plays host to all kinds of events and shows. It is such a cool place. There are booths with vintage toys and clothes, and stacks of records. Being there reminded me of my favorite little shop in Henderson. They started out with a small section at The Elm and have since outgrown two other locations before landing where they are now.
Corkscrew Curiosities is the most adorable little quirky haven of vintage treasures, books old and new, trinkets, stickers, fidgets, clothes, jewelry, local art, and even some wild oddities. Some of them you can purchase. Others live in the store, almost like mascots. A taxidermied albino deer head, a specimen snake with a fish in its mouth, and even a raccoon ready to hit the Pink Pony Club. (Keep scrolling for pictures!)

As a treat for surviving the roundabout under construction, I stopped in before heading back to Owensboro. They have tons of Halloween decorations out right now. I had to resist the urge to add to my blow mold collection, but I did pick up a few things. I actually spotted something VERY special.
A little JET magazine from 1965 documenting the March on Montgomery. You may or may not know that one of the photographers, Moneta Sleet Jr., is one of the most accomplished individuals in the history of Owensboro. You can learn more about him here. Or you can visit the park named in his honor.

If you are a treasure hunter or need a dose of nostalgia, stop in and see them at 920 2nd St. with the cutest display window out front. Parking is up the driveway in the back, and you enter through the game room/workshop space. Their hours are Tuesday-Saturday from 10 AM to 5 PM.
Follow Corkscrew Curiosities on Facebook for info on events they host and sneak peeks of new items that are added all the time. Speaking of sneak peeks, here are some pictures I took while I was there today.
