Kentucky Bourbon Expert Reviews the Whiskey Jypsi Explorer Series by Eric Church

Tuesday marked the release of a brand new whiskey from country music star Eric Church. About a year ago, Church released his first whiskey and shared the story behind the making of it.

Now, there's really no way to mince words. Whiskey Jypsi is expensive. However, today, Eric Church is launching a much more affordable Whiskey Jypsi Explorer Series and Owensboro, KY bourbon expert Jacob Kiper is sharing his thoughts about it.

Kiper, by the way, is the creator of the popular 'sneak peek' website ComingWhiskey.com. The site offers bourbon fans "exclusive access to rare and unique American whiskies." Jacob filled me in on Eric's promising new bourbon a couple of weeks ago.

Jacob says there's something that sets Whiskey Jypsi apart from other "celebrity" whiskeys. He says many times those celebrity spirits are "younger spirits, low quality, with a high price tag." He says the distillers are often banking on consumers purchasing bottles based on the celebrity name alone.

However, that's not the case with Eric Church's brand. Jacob says, "Eric was heavily involved in the creation and worked side-by-side with Ari Sussman, a well-known and esteemed blender."  Jacob goes on to say that Sussman is like a "King Midas of American spirits. If he touches it, it's likely gold."

As for the product, Jacob says it's very high-quality.  "This particular Whiskey Jypsi is initially aged for at least six years in American White Oak and then further aged with Troncais French oak and Appalachain oak." That process adds flavors and aroma you don't typically get with most American whiskey. So, Whiskey Jypsi features flavors that most Americans typically don't experience from other American bourbons.

Jacob adds that Whiskey Jypsi Explorer, which sells for $69.99 per bottle, is priced "so the average enthusiast would want to purchase it just based on quality."  He adds, "This whiskey definitely does not need a celebrity endorsement."
