Daviess County Kentucky ‘Trash for Cash’ Program Accepting Applications
The feeling when you see trash beside the road out in the middle of nowhere is disheartening. I'm talking about trash along a county road or a parkway. In an effort to help keep these distant roads clean, the Daviess County Solid Waste Department has implemented a program that will help keep things clean.
"Trash for Cash" is a fundraising opportunity for non-profit organizations that keep county roads free of litter and debris.
Typically in the spring or fall, groups will select a day to collect roadside trash. The county will provide safety vests, trash bags, and other litter collection tools to assist with cleanup.
In accordance with the rules of the program, groups will only collect trash on county roads, not state highways, parkways, or interstates.
Approved applications will receive a minimum of $100 per centerline mile of roads cleaned. The total amount will be determined by the Division of Waste Management in the Kentucky Energy and Environmental Cabinet. The program funding is derived from the Kentucky Environmental Remediation Fee of $1.75 per ton of waste received at the Landfill and Transfer Station.
In order to participate in "Trash for Cash", the organization must be from Daviess County, Kentucky, and a federally recognized 501 (c) (3) not-for-profit.
The application period will be from Wednesday, November 1st until Friday, December 1st. Applications must be received no later than December 1st.
