What’s Behind Buc-ee’s ‘F’ Rating from the Better Business Bureau?
If you were to survey enough travelers, asking them to assign letter grades to specific roadside travel center chains, don't you think Buc-ee's would receive straight A's across the board? I mean, based on social media? I know I would.
But that's me...or us, I guess. We are not the Better Business Bureau. This could be the equivalent of the Rotten Tomatometer which spits out average movie scores from critics, while the Popcorn Meter tallies up what the viewing public thinks. But those cinema ratings are usually much closer together than what we've just learned from the BBB.
Buc-ee's Gets an 'F' from the Better Business Bureau
Now, before your eyes pop so far out of your head that you have to push them back in, you should understand that this is not the same as an 'F' from the health department. F's are never good, but this "F" is not that "F." I've never seen an unhappy face at either of Kentucky's Buc-ee's locations in Smiths Grove or Richmond, just pure joy. And I've never heard one unkind word about the chain's world-class brisket.
I think even members of the Better Business Bureau would have nothing but kind words about this Buc-ee's trademark. But they're not restaurant critics; they're here for us, the consumer. And when, according to the bureau itself, 88 complaints against a store go unanswered, the situation is addressed. And they addressed it with the worst grade you can get. (Keep in mind, no specific locations were mentioned; they're just complaints, in general, about the chain.)
The Nature of the Buc-ee's Complaints
Over the last seven years, customers have complained about not being able to find a phone number on the Buc-ee's website, unanswered inquiries on the site, and customer service issues. Throughout 2025, there were complaints about difficulties with management and with getting a hold of someone at the corporate level.
As someone who recently tried to cancel a subscription that I didn't know I'd purchased and had a difficult time doing so, I can relate to that kind of frustration.
No, customers are not complaining about the food; they're complaining about not hearing back from anyone, even if they did.
