Just when I thought I had all my horse bases covered, another really cool event pops up!

I was on Facebook the other day, and you know how over the past year, it has started showing you content that might interest you from outside of your friends and follows? Well, it knows me. It knows I love all things horses, and since this one is within driving distance, it was definitely something I had to look into more!

This Illinois Stable Is Hosting a Glow Ride

Massa Stables LLC in Litchfield, Illinois, recently announced that it is hosting a Glow Ride. Now, if you're thinking, "But I don't have my own horse," no worries! You don't need one.

Massa Stables is a full-service stable with safe horses that will take riders on a 45-minute ride after dark at a relaxing pace. I talked to Bianca Walker, the owner of Massa Stables, and she told me that they've gone all out for this event.

"I've seen events like this in passing, but not quite as extensive as we are doing it. We are decking out the horses, the riders, and even lighting up the trails!"

Ummm, hello inner child!

What to Expect on the Glow Ride

The glow rides will take place on trails located right on the Massa Stables property. Riders will head out after dark for a relaxing 45-minute ride, with the horses, riders, and trails all decked out with glow lights.

The stable also offers longer daytime trail rides at nearby Blake Lowry Horse Park, which is right next to the property and offers over 1,500 acres of scenic horse trails.

Since it's about a 3.5-hour drive from the Tri-State, you could always make a weekend out of it and talk to the stable about booking a longer trail ride for the following day, because if I'm driving three and a half hours for a horse adventure, I'm probably going to try to squeeze as much horse time out of that trip as possible.

You Can Also Meet Longhorns and Highland Cows

If riding isn't your only reason for wanting to visit, Massa Stables has a few other things going on, too. The stable offers riding lessons, as well as farm visits where you can meet and greet their longhorn steers and Highland cows. You can get your horse fix and your fluffy cow fix in the same trip. I'm not sure what more you could ask for.

Who Can Participate in the Glow Ride?

There are a few requirements for riders. You must be 7 years old or older, and there is a 200-pound weight limit. The cost is $65 per rider.

The glow ride is designed to be a relaxing experience, so it isn't about racing around or doing anything crazy. It's a chance to experience a trail ride after dark in a completely different way.

More Glow Rides Could Be Coming

The owner told me they are hoping to grow the experience, and while spots are almost booked up for this fall, they are already working on plans for a Christmas event and spring glow rides. So if you miss out on this year's fall Glow Ride, you may have another chance to experience one.

She recommends keeping an eye on the Massa Stables Facebook page and website for information about upcoming events. And now I have yet another horse-related event to add to my list of things I apparently need to do. Click here to learn more or book.
