Evansville Speakeasy Hush Is Coming Back, Well, Kinda

Last October, I shared the news that Evansville’s beloved speakeasy, Hush, had closed its doors. If you'd never had the chance to make it into the 1920s-themed bar, it was meticulously crafted and curated by owner Brendon Meier. There were actual antiques, real movie props, a baby grand piano, and a lot of attention to detail.

Meier sold the space to someone planning to use it as a private bar, officially ending Hush as we knew it. At the time, Meier thanked the community for an incredible run and left us with a pretty intriguing tease.

“If you like what we built in ‘24, wait and see what we create in ‘26. We sincerely miss each of our wonderful customers and can’t wait to see each of you again. Until next time.”

We all wanted to know what was next.

A New Update Reveals What Is Coming Next

Just when we put up our dancin' shoes and forgot all about the promise, back in February, the Hush social media page finally shared more details, and the concept got folks talking again.

Meier decided to evolve the speakeasy into a Murder Mystery Theater experience.

Unsolved Evansville Murders Take Center Stage

According to the post, he wanted to focus on real unsolved murders that happened in downtown Evansville, many dating back to the 1920s.

We’re talking bootleggers and flapper girls, psychics, and even some special guests like Al Capone’s South Side gang. These stories are pulled straight from history, not fiction.

“These are not fabricated stories. They are researched and written by Kelly Coures and are actual murders from headlines of the Evansville Courier many years ago. Several made national news, but the murders were never solved and the murderers were never brought to justice.” - HUSH Facebook

Oh, goosebumps!

Now, some folks had concerns about grieving families, but the mysteries they are focusing on happened well over 100 years ago and are part of historical archives.

Signature Cocktails Are Still Part of the Experience

At that time, they also confirmed that guests will still be able to enjoy Hush’s famous signature cocktails like the Old Fashioned and the French 75 during the theater experience.

As a former bartender at Hush, I can assure you that they are top drawer! Really top drawer!
