For the first time in history, the leader of the Catholic church is an American.

The new pope is also from Illinois, Chicago in particular. As a Chicago Cubs fan, I was interested to see what team he cheered on.

Is The New Pope A Cubs Fan or White Sox Fan?

I'll be honest. I was bracing myself for Robert Prevost, now named Pope Leo XIV, to say he was a fan of both teams. Picking one team over another might anger a fanbase, so the best answer is just to say, "I like both the Cubs and the Sox."

The New Pope Has South Side Chicago Roots

Very early reports said the newly anointed pope is a tried-and-true Cubs fan. Born on the city's South Side, Pope Leo XIV's status as a Cubs fan surprised me, and here's why: The pope wasn't born on the city's North Side. My skepticism appears to be paying off, as reports are now saying differently.

Family Disagrees With Early Reports of Pope Leo XIV's Favorite Baseball Team

Block Club Chicago says Pope Leo XIV's brother John Prevost disagrees: "He's a Sox fan." If that's true, I'm not mad; I'm just disappointed. Confusion regarding Prevost's roots has made Chicago Cubs fans mistakenly believe he is a Cubs supporter because his mother was from the city's North Side.

So, while we're not sure if Pope Leo XIV is a fan of the Cubs or Sox, we might have a bigger question that needs answering above all: deep dish or thin crust?
