Newburgh Park Getting Major 2 Million Dollar Upgrade
A popular Warrick County park is about to get a major upgrade, and it’s designed with families in mind.
Lou Dennis Community Park in Newburgh is set for a more than $2 million expansion, bringing new inclusive play spaces, fitness areas, and upgrades to make the park more accessible for everyone.
What Is Coming To Lou Dennis Community Park
The next phase of improvements will include several new features designed for all ages and abilities.
Plans call for:
- A fully inclusive playground for children of all abilities
- The Robert Emmett Griffin Obstacle and Fitness Course
- ADA-friendly safety surfacing throughout the area
- New fencing, shade structures, and seating areas
The new playground will be built next to the existing splash pad, with the obstacle course located just behind it, creating one connected space for families to enjoy.

When Construction Will Begin
The Town of Newburgh is scheduled to break ground on the project on April 24 at 2:00 p.m.
Construction will begin shortly after, with officials expecting the new amenities to be completed by the end of summer.

What Will Stay Open During Construction
The good news is that much of the park will remain open while work is underway.
Visitors will still have access to:
- The splash pad
- Existing playground
- Basketball and tennis courts
- Shelter houses and rental facilities
- Restrooms
However, the construction area will be closed off, and some parking may be temporarily impacted.
Why This Project Matters For Newburgh Families
Town leaders say the project is focused on creating more opportunities for families to stay active together while improving accessibility for everyone in the community.
The expansion is part of a larger long-term plan to continue improving parks and public spaces across Newburgh.
How The Project Is Being Funded
The total cost of the project is just over $2 million, funded through a mix of public and private sources.
That includes:
- $1 million from Indiana’s READI 2.0 program
- Local funding through a Town of Newburgh bond
- Private contributions raised by Newburgh Park Pals
Officials say the investment reflects a broader commitment to improving the quality of life and community spaces in the area.
