Accidents happen and we are all prone to injury but according to a recent study, Kentucky residents have a higher rate of emergency room visits than almost every other state.

In a recent study, New York Pain Care took a look at data shared by a number of outlets including the Bureau of Labor and Statistics, the National Association of State EMS Officials, and the American Health Association to analyze the accident and injury statistics.

By examining data pertaining to ambulance call-outs and emergency room visits, as well as workplace injury data, the study has revealed which states are most prone to injuries.

Maine Tops the List as Most Accident-Prone State

Maine tops the list in the number one spot with 596 emergency room visits per year per 1,000 residents. That means more than half the residents of Maine visit the ER each year. The state is also the highest ranking when it comes to workplace injury 41 per 1,000 full-time employees.

Louisiana Holds the Number Two Position

Likewise, Louisiana residents are visiting the emergency room at a rate of over half the population per year with 535 ER visits per 1,000 residents. Good news for employees in the state though - Louisiana has the lowest number of work-related injuries with just 16 per 1,000 full-time workers.

#3 - Over Half of Kentucky Residents Visit the ER Annually

Kentucky takes the number three position with 525 emergency room visits per 1,000 residents of the Bluegrass State. Again, that is more than half of the residents in the state of Kentucky visiting the ER annually.

<span data-ogsc="rgb(14, 16, 26)">Kentucky</span><span data-ogsc="rgb(14, 16, 26)"> had 525 ER visits per 1,000 residents and ranked in third place. The state also ranked ninth for workplace injury rates and ambulance responses, with 26 injury incidents per 1,000 full-time workers and 194 EMS responses per 1,000 residents in 2018.</span>

Indiana Makes the List Too

As for neighboring Indiana, the state tied for sixth place with Mississippi with 485 emergency room visits per 1,000 residents.
