If you are driving through Southern Indiana and suddenly feel like you have encountered a roadside mirage made entirely of snacks, you are not imagining things.

Jasper, Indiana, is home to a 17-foot-tall giant box of popcorn, and once you see it, you will absolutely understand why it belongs in the Midwest Weird hall of fame.

The oversized popcorn sculpture sits outside Jasper Flowers & Gifts, a local business that specializes in premium bouquets, more than 90 flavors of gourmet popcorn, and thoughtful gifts. It is bold, joyful, and completely unapologetic about existing, which honestly feels very on brand for the Midwest.

Where To Find Jasper’s Giant Popcorn Box

You will find the giant popcorn box at 1524 N Newton Street in Jasper, Indiana, standing proudly outside Jasper Flowers & Gifts. It is visible from the road and functions as both a landmark and an invitation to pull over and see what on earth is going on.

This is not the kind of thing you casually walk past. It demands attention. And photos.

Why There Is A Giant Popcorn Box In Indiana

As delightfully absurd as it looks, the giant popcorn box actually makes perfect sense when you realize that Indiana is the number one popcorn-producing state in the United States. That means this towering snack tribute is less random roadside weirdness and more a very enthusiastic celebration of local agriculture.

For a business built around gourmet popcorn, going big feels like the only reasonable choice.

Yes You Are Supposed To Take Pictures With It

This is anything but subtle art. It's really more of a full commitment to being memorable. The scale alone turns an ordinary errand into an Instagram moment, and that is exactly why it works.

If you are someone who loves roadside attractions, oversized objects, or explaining to your friends why you stopped for popcorn photos in Jasper, this one is for you.

Midwest Weird At Its Finest

Midwest Weird is all about those places that exist because someone leaned fully into an idea and followed it through. The giant popcorn box checks every box. It is local, specific, a little ridiculous, and deeply charming.

And honestly, if Indiana is going to be the popcorn capital of the country, the least we can do is build a 17-foot box to prove it.

KEEP READING: 40 Real Indiana Towns with Quirky, Weird, and Funny Names

Outside the major cities, the Hoosier state is full of tiny little towns you've probably passed through on your way to one of those cities. Most of them are likely 100 to 150 years old, or older, and have been around far longer than the large metropolitan areas such as Indianapolis, Fort Wayne, South Bend, and Evansville. Typically, they were started by early settlers who found their way to the state and decided to make it home. Eventually, others would join them, and a community was formed. Over time, as the surrounding areas grew, most of them were folded into those areas and governed by the nearest city or county's governing body officially making them "unincorporated," meaning they did not have their own formally organized municipal government.

A scroll through Wikipedia's long list of unincorporated communities in Indiana shows several of them have names that by today's standards would be considered weird, quirky, or just downright right funny. These are my 40 favorities.
