Colon Screening Can Save Lives

While no one wants to talk about it, colon screening is a vital preventative procedure and it saves lives. While a colon screening may not be on the top of your "Things I'd Really Love to Do" list, you should know just how important getting one really is.

Colorectal Cancer is the Third Most Common Cancer Diagnosis in America

According to Colon Screening for Life (CSL), "colorectal cancer is the third most common cancer diagnosed in both men and women in the United States" and it is the second leading cancer killer. However, annual screenings can often detect "precancerous polyps—abnormal growths in the colon or rectum—so they can be removed before turning into cancer." CSL continues, "screening also helps find colorectal cancer at an early stage, when treatment often leads to a cure."

Colon Screenings Should Begin at Age 45

It is recommended by the U.S. Preventative Task Force that individuals begin undergoing regular screenings beginning at age 45, or even earlier if there isa family history of colorectal cancer. Of course, you should always talk with your doctor before scheduling any type of procedure.
