Henderson Teens Can Earn Money While Giving Back to the Community

A new program in Henderson, Kentucky, is giving local teenagers a chance to earn some money, build their resumes, and help their neighbors at the same time.

Audubon Kids Zone is launching AKZ Teen & Community Connection, a program connecting Henderson County teens with paid opportunities to complete projects for residents in Henderson's East End.

Even better, the help comes at no cost to participating neighbors.

Henderson Teens Can Earn Money and Real-World Experience

AKZ is currently looking for up to 15 Henderson County teens ages 13 to 17 to participate in the new program.

The teens will be paid by Audubon Kids Zone while completing approved community projects. Along the way, participants will have opportunities to develop skills they can carry into their first jobs and beyond, including:

• Job readiness and workplace skills
• Money management
• Communication and professional skills
• Responsibility
• Experience for future job applications and resumes

The program also gives teens a chance to build confidence while doing something tangible for people in their own community.

East End Neighbors Can Request Free Help

The other half of the program is for the East End residents who have projects around their homes or properties that could use an extra set of hands.

Potential projects include yard work, mowing or raking, washing a car, outdoor painting, cleaning out a shed or garage, and other household projects deemed appropriate for the program.

There is no cost for participating neighbors because AKZ pays the teens for their work.

Residents can submit a Neighbor Project Request Form describing what they need help with. AKZ will review requests based on safety, suitability, scheduling, and the program's available capacity.

The participants will also be supervised by AKZ while completing projects.

Projects Expected to Begin This Fall

Audubon Kids Zone plans to begin completing projects in October 2026.

The result is one program meeting two needs: Henderson teens get paid work experience and practical life skills, while East End residents get a helping hand with projects they may need assistance completing.
