Why Are The Names of the Planets Drawn On This Warrick County Road?
The Mystery of Maurer Road in Boonville
I was recently doing what I call "Good Grazing" on Facebook, in which I troll social media for something good to leave a good comment on. In a world full of negativity, I try to shine a little light where I can. In one of the Boonville groups I follow, someone recently posted asking why the names of certain planets had been written in chalk on Maurer Road. The post mentioned that this appears to happen every year around the end of the school year. However, no one seems to know why this is happening. Turns out, this is most likely a really cool field trip or class project.
What The Planets on Maurer Road Mean
The comments on the post offered some explanation of what the mystery of Maurer Road could be. I turned to good old Google for some light research and found that the planets most likely represent a class project. Most likely, there's a really cool teacher out there who wants their students to understand the vast distances of outer space. Here on Earth, it's physically impossible to see or understand how big our solar system is or how far apart the planets are. This project allows teachers to give students a to-scale map to help them learn the solar system. For example, this can be demonstrated by placing the Sun at one point on a sidewalk. Using specific walking distances, each planet is marked based on its actual distance in outer space but represented by a smaller-scale example. Therefore, what everyone is seeing on Maurer Road is most likely a scaled model of our solar system. Enjoy your space walk, Warrick County.
