This Indiana Town is Considered to Have the Most Naughty-Sounding Name in the State
As a Hoosier, the chances are good that you're familiar with all the major cities across the state. There's the state capital, Indianapolis. There's Fort Wayne and South Bend up north, and Evansville in the south, where I'm sitting right now. You also know Bloomington and Lafayette because they're home to Indiana University and Purdue, respectively. But our state is also full of hundreds of little towns that you're probably unfamiliar with. Some of them have names that if you still have the sense of humor of a 13-year-old (and I do) will make you giggle, but according to one website, one of them has the dirtiest-sounding name of all of them even though I'm sure that wasn't the intention of the people who named it.
And the Winner for Naughtiest Town Name in Indiana Goes To...
The people behind the real estate website, Estately apparently had quite a bit of time on their hands. They poured through city and town names in every single state in America for the sole purpose of finding which town had the naughtiest-sounding name in each one. From Rough & Ready, California to Ramtown, New Jersey, there's at least one town in every state that by today's standards sounds like the people who named it didn't think it through. But again, in their defense, most of these towns were named a couple of hundred years ago when the human mind wasn't quite as twisted as it is now.
For the Hoosier State, Estately listed a few different towns that sound unintentionally naughty. For example, Beaver City, French Lick, and Gnaw Bone. But the one they think tops them all is — Floyds Knobs.
According to Wikipedia, the town of Floyds Knobs was named after Colonel Davis Floyd and the eroded hills that dotted the landscape. In an effort to keep this somewhat "PG-rated," let's just say that was not what I thought of when I first heard the name. To be honest, I'm not sure how to describe what I thought in a way that won't make the name sound even naughtier, so I'll just leave it up to your imagination. Better yet, I'll let someone who's from there explain.
As Estately mentioned, it's not the only dirty, naughty, or "lewd-sounding" name in the state. There are a few others I've found that rank up there too.
