Look Twice For Motorcycles! May Is Motorcycle Safety Awareness Month
May Is Motorcycle Awareness Month
'Tis the season for a beautiful motorcycle ride! As our biker friends and family get the bikes out and fired up for the season, I'd like to remind everyone to look twice for bikes! They only have two wheels and one light, so when you hit those stop signs, remember to look twice and save a life! Something as simple as looking twice for motorcycles when you come to a stop sign, or intersection can literally save a life. Motorcycles are not nearly as visible to general motorists, and at night, they're twice as hard to see. Motorcycle safety isn't just on the motorcyclist; it's everyone's responsibility to be safe on the roads. May is Motorcycle Safety Awareness Month, and there's plenty to cover with safety, but here are some tips to help drivers on the road be more aware and prepared for motorcycles.
Tips To Know About Motorcycle Safety
They don't just say look twice for bikes because it sounds cute and makes for a great slogan; they say it because it's incredibly important to motorcyclists' safety. Motorcycles are small and can easily be hidden in a vehicle's blind spot. This is why it's so important to check, then check again, before turning or changing lanes. This is also why it's important to assume a motorcycle is closer than it appears and to keep a safe distance. They're small, exposed motor vehicles, and it can be very difficult to predict their speed. Riders do not always use their brakes to slow down, often using downshifting or throttle rolling to slow rather than completely stop. You may not always see brake lights, so distance can be your best friend on the road. Remember, that could be your friend or family under that helmet. Look twice. Save a life.
