Adoptable Indiana Shelter Dog Looking for a Second Chance with a New Family
This week's Pet of the Week from the Vanderburgh Humane Society has a sad story to tell. Maybe you can give him a happy ending by making him part of your family.
Meet Our VHS Pet of the Week "Spud"
Meet Spud who is back at the Vanderburgh Humane Society after his first go-around with an adopted family didn't work out well. The first time he showed up at the VHS, he was overweight thanks to an untreated thyroid issue. On top of that, he was also heartworm positive. However, thanks to the hard work, dedication, and care of the staff and volunteers at the VHS, he received the medications he needed to treat both conditions and even lost the extra weight he had been carrying around (maybe I should see if the VHS can help me lose some weight).
Following his treatments and weight lost, Spud was adopted and everything seemed great. Until it wasn't. Spud was returned to the shelter and had not only gained all the weight the VHS worked hard to get rid of, but he also gained a little extra because the family who adopted him didn't keep up with his thyroid medication.
Since his return, the staff at the VHS got him back on his regular meds and helped him lose 30 pounds. He's now ready for a second chance with a new family who is willing to keep him on his medication and help him keep the extra weight off.
Spud is a boxer mix and is estimated to be about 8 years old. His adoption fee is $150 which covers the cost of his neutering, microchipping, and vaccinations. All of which would be well over $150 if you paid for them separately. However, through Saturday, you could get Spud for much less than that with the Mutts Madness event where you can name your own price for any dog adoption.
If you're interested in Spud or any of the other animals up for adoption at the Vanderburgh Humane Society, get a jump on the adoption process by filling out some of the paperwork in advance on the VHS website.
