Highland Baseball Challenger League Sets Record With Lip Sync Show
What Is Highland Baseball Challenger League?
Highland Baseball Challenger League is an amazing league we are lucky to have in Evansville, Indiana. Since its start in 2014, the league has done nothing but grow, primarily due to the support of our amazing community. This league is a group of folks who see the value in everyone, so they created a baseball league for those with physical and intellectual challenges. The "fastest growing league in the world" has served over 150 youth in the tri-state area, and over 5,550 volunteers have made that possible. In fact, our local league has made such momentum that they were named National League of the Year in 2015, and received an invitation to the Little League World Series in 2018. Check out the highlights from that trip below.
An Incredible Evening With An Old Friend
I've been looking forward to this event ever since Brian Kinsey, President of the League, joined us in the studio for an interview. Since my co-hort (Travis Sams) had a prior engagement, I decided to reach out to my old go-to, Owen George, who played in the league and is now the Vice President. In my prior stint with WKDQ, I met Owen during a donut stop for one of his popular LemonAid Stands to support Easter Seals. From there, we put together multiple promotions for Easter Seals, and Owen was always my favorite little superstar (pictures below). My personal favorite Owen moment? The first time he walked without his braces at the inaugural Golfing Fore Kids event. Even though he knows I'm goofy and unpredictable, he still agreed to perform with me at the annual Lip Sync Show to support the Highland Challenger League. As we're both big fans of the St. Louis Cardinals, we decided to do our best rendition of Alabama's "Cheap Seats".
Record-Setting Funds Raised At This Year's Lip Sync Show
The entertainment line-up was stacked, with performances from Evansville Mayor Stephanie Terry, Vanderburgh County Sheriff Noah Robinson, and Chief of Police Philip Smith, longtime local news broadcaster Mike Blake, and many more. Record funds were raised for the League this year. In fact, they raised enough to share $500 with two other non-profits! Pretty cool if you ask me!
