Are These the Five Worst Driving Behaviors in Indiana?

There's a good chance that you have encountered drivers along Indiana roadways who didn't have the best driving behaviors. Hopefully you're not one of them.

While Indiana is full of roads that offer great scenery and make for a great Sunday drive, we also have a few sketchy roads throughout the state. Regardless of the road conditions, the one thing you always have to be cautious about is the drivers around you. That's what I constantly tell my 17-year-old daughter. We've all seen some careless drivers along Indiana roadways. For some, it's almost a daily occurrence. You know what kind of drivers I am talking about: careless drivers weaving in and out of traffic, distracted drivers, speeders- the list goes on and on. You can do everything right while driving, but it's always those other drivers that you have to look out for.

That's especially true here in the Evansville area. We have had so many road rage incidents here lately that could have all been avoided one way or another. It's ridiculous to see how others drive on the roadways. I guess some people just had enough of it, but road rage is never the answer. In fact, the answer lies within the problem...driving pet peeves.

5 - Slow Drivers in the Left Lane

We have all seen this countless times on the highway/intersate. It never fails that when you're in the "passing lane," you can't pass the car going slow in the right lane because the car in front of you in the left lane is going 5 to 10 miles per hour below the speed limit. It's called the fast lane for a reason. If you're driving slow, move over!

4 - High Beam Overuse

I'll admit, this is one that annoys me. I have a hard enough time seeing at night, but it's even harder when someone is driving toward me with their brights on. Some drivers in our world seem to believe that driving with the brights on all of the time is acceptable. They just don't understand that when a vehicle is approaching, you have to turn your brights off!

3 - Tailgating

I feel like this is one that causes a lot of road rage incidents. If you have ever had someone riding your bumper, you know that it's beyond frustrating. Especially if you are going the speed limit on a two-lane road or you're in the right lane (slow drivers in the left lane, revert back to number 5). If you are tailgating me, I will go slower. We all have somewhere to be; let's get there without a brake check gone wrong.

2 - Texting While Driving

More people are guilty of this than they care to admit. This illegal behavior on our roadways accounts for a lot of accidents. That text can wait. Put your phone down so we all can get where we are going safe and sound.

1 - Not using a turn signal

If you sit in the driver's seat and look down at your steering wheel, you will notice a little lever to the left of the wheel. This is a feature on all vehicles. It's called a turn signal. Use it. That way, others around you know which direction you intend to go instead of assuming we can read your mind.
