Benefits of Local Skateparks

My brother was an avid skater when we were younger, and I remember spending many weekends at the skateparks with him and his friends.  I've seen many people on social media question why a skatepark is needed in Evansville, and truthfully there are a myriad of benefits to having a free recreational area for the community to utilize.

In regards to skateparks specifically, there are a lot of benefits, including a safe area for kids (and all members of the community) to partake in physical activity, and there is a positive social aspect to skateparks as well.   SkatePark.org has many great resources if you want to learn more about the many benefits of skate parks, but I'll leave you with this:
A skatepark is a safe place for individuals and groups to challenge themselves, to encourage and be encouraged, to set and achieve their own goals while learning to manage risk along the way. It’s a place where people build healthy habits like self-directed exercise and creative expression. It’s a place where people learn how to persevere and the value of persistence. A place to experience accomplishment and build confidence. A skatepark is an attractive, accessible and safe recreational facility for all.
