As tax returns start hitting people's bank accounts, many will likely use the funds to buy a new ride for 2025. Here's the cheapest car you can purchase in Indiana.

Tax season is upon us, and with it comes an abundance of tax-time sales where you could easily blow your refund all in one place. For those looking to trade in their vehicle for a new model, there are certainly plenty to choose from. However, many of them are likely to come with some sticker shock, as new car prices are set to again reach record highs in 2025. That said, if you don’t have a lot of money to spend, there is one option that might be perfect for you.

A Look at Indiana's Cheapest New Car

There are no more brand-new vehicles available to Hoosiers for under $20,000, except for one: the Nissan Versa, with a starting price of about $17,190. The Nissan Versa is a subcompact sedan, similar in size and stature to the Toyota Corolla. It gets about 32 miles per gallon on the highway and around 40 in the city. All 2025 Nissan Versas come equipped with backup cameras, Apple CarPlay/Android Auto, and other modern features. The base model, the "S," is configured with a manual transmission, making it the last subcompact sedan on the market to offer that option.

You may have heard before that "you get what you pay for," so what exactly are you getting with the cheapest car on the market? According to Car and Driver, the Nissan Versa is said to be unimpressive when it comes to performance, but it is comfortable and easy to drive. It boasts a reliability rating of four out of five stars and seems to be a solid option for most folks just looking to get from one point to another. The biggest con is probably the weak acceleration; aside from that, it’s still a bargain in 2025.
