I don't know about you, but one of my least favorite things to do as an adult is to go grocery shopping. It costs so much to get so little nowadays. I'm sure you'll agree that when you go to the checkout to purchase your groceries, you are always shocked by the fact that you spent a whole lot of money, even though your cart isn't even half full. Oh, and don't even get me started on the price of groceries in a full cart.

We all have our favorite grocery stores to shop at, though. These are the ones that we feel give us the best bang for our buck. I enjoy places like Ruler Foods because I really can tell the difference in price at checkout compared to something like Walmart. That being said, there are all kinds of grocery stores across the state of Indiana that pride themselves on their lower prices.

Consumer Reports just did a study to find the cheapest and priciest grocery stores in America. They looked at 35 different chains, and actually had people go pull prices directly off the shelves. From there, they used what you'd pay if you had a loyalty card with discounts. What's interesting about this study is that Consumer Reports compared prices for all the stores to how much you'd pay at Walmart, the largest grocery chain in the U.S.

The most expensive major supermarket might not come as much of a surprise. According to Consumer Reports, the priciest grocery store in the country is Whole Foods. Stuff there costs an average of 40% MORE than Walmart prices. However, when it comes to the cheapest grocery store in the country, you may be a little surprised.

Consumer Reports says that the cheapest grocery store in America is none other than Costco. According to the study, you will pay an average of 21.4% less at Costco than at Walmart.

While you are buying in bulk at Costco, I do find it hard to disagree with this study.

My wife and I are members, and we love it for different reasons. For me, I am a big fan of their meat selection and the prices of not only the meat but also other essentials that we use in our home. For her, it's the hot dogs at the cafe. According to Costco's website, there are nine locations throughout Indiana.

The study is quite interesting, actually. Especially when it comes to where several of the stores landed. You can take a look at that full report by clicking here.
