All The Reasons You Should Binge 'The Road'

Taylor Sheridan has made a name for himself in Hollywood, starting with his epic hit Yellowstone. Sheridan has continued to achieve success with well-written shows, such as the Yellowstone spin-offs 1883, 1923, The Madison, and Y: Marshals (scheduled to debut in 2026). Additionally, Sheridan has had his hands on other successful shows such as Landman, Tulsa King, and Mayor of Kingstown. However, my personal favorite feat of his yet is actually in reality television. Creator and executive producer of CBS's The Road, Taylor launched his first reality music competition earlier this year, alongside the likes of Keith Urban, Gretchen Wilson, and Blake Shelton. The show follows 12 pseudo-distinguished artists looking for their big break. The levels of success vary, with some contestants already having penned number one singles as co-songwriters on singles that have gone number one for artists you know. Channing Wilson, who's been touring for more than 20 years with his own music and whom I call Bocephus Junior, co-wrote Luke Combs hit song "She Got The Best Of Me". Adam Sanders, the walking advertisement for 90's country music, co-wrote Cole Swindell's hit song "Ain't Worth The Whiskey". Gretchen serves as the contestant's road manager, while Keith Urban and Blake Shelton serve as advisers and/or managers. My personal favorite, Jenny Tolman, unfortunately, went home at the conclusion of episode six.

Why Jenny Tolman Is My Favorite And Worth Checking Out

I love the concept of the show that allows these artists to play original music. When Jenny Tolman popped up in the first episode, my reaction was, "I know her! I have her music!" My personal favorite song of hers is called "High Class White Trash", with redneck lyrics reminiscent of Gretchen Wilson's "Redneck Woman". Here are some lyrics from the tune:

"Nothing like a sample of perfume at the bottom of a purse, to cover up the Pall Mall wreakin' from your shirt. Or a little Bloody Mary for a head full of hurt. Nothing like a fresh coat of lipstick painted on bright. And you can say the kinda **** that momma wouldn't like. Even makes a potty mouth seem lady-like."

While Jenny is not the in-your-face entertainer like many of the other contestants, her pitch-perfect delivery of covers, aligned with her stellar storytelling style of songwriting, makes me thrilled for the next Jenny Tolman album! Her debut album, There Goes The Neighborhood, was released in 2021. Tolman performed several songs from this album on the show, including "Till My Tank Is Empty," the popular ode to her husband and perverbial love song requirement for any album. I love a good lyric, and the way Jenny composes her songs, it's one good lyric after another. Don't take my word for it, check out all things Jenny on her website.

Check out this fan favorite, "Married In A Honky Tonky", from her live performance on The Road:
