There are a ton of factors to weigh when it comes to deciding where you'd like to live. Ideally, you want a place where you feel safe with all the amenities you need (stores, restaurants, entertainment options), good schools for your kids, cost of living, etc. If you live in Tennessee or are looking to relocate to the Volunteer State, recent data from Niche and shared by Stacker ranking the best places to live in every state suggests this Nashville suburb is the ideal place in the entire state.

How the Best Places to Live is Determined

Niche researches a number of factors to reach its conclusions, including millions of reviews and survey data from residents, as well as data from the Department of Education, the U.S. Census Bureau, and the FBI. After crunching the numbers and analyzing the results, researchers then assign grades to each location in the following categories:

  • Public Schools
  • Crime & Safety
  • Housing
  • Nightlife
  • Good for Families
  • Diversity
  • Jobs
  • Weather
  • Cost of Living
  • Health & Fitness
  • Outdoor Activities
  • Commute

According to the data, Brentwood takes the crown as the best to live in the entire state. The suburb sits just south of Nashville and is home to several country music stars, athletes, and other musicians including, Dolly Parton, Tim McGraw and Faith Hill, Vince Gill and Amy Grant, Hillary Scott-Tyrell of Lady A and her husband, Chris, as well as Jack White of the White Stripes.

Niche says what makes Brentwood the best is that it "offers residents a rural feel," features, "a lot of restaurants, coffee shops, and parks," and the public schools are "highly rated." The lowest grade it received based on the data was a B- in cost of living, weather, crime and safety, diversity, and commute. Public schools, jobs, and being a good place for families all received an A+.

No place is perfect, of course, but here's what a few current residents (names not revealed) had to say about living there, courtesy of Niche:

I am extremely fortunate to live in a suburb that has such great access to a quality education and plentiful resources. These are the main draws of the area I live in, and for good reason. I would like to see an increased level of diversity and understanding of social issues impacting the larger city we are a part of. Many people in Brentwood become insulated by people who share similar beliefs and life experiences as the people around them, and that is not a reflection of the average American’s experience or even the average person living in Nashville.

Brentwood is a very well taken care of city. The education and safety here is top-notch. Public transportation and sidewalks are not super prevalent and traffic is high. Other than that it is a beautiful and very family oriented area.

It is a great place to grow up. There are lots of good schools and opportunities available for students.
