When I was a kid, the 4th of July was my favorite holiday - right next to Christmas. My parents' longtime neighbors would open up their classic car barn and deck it out with red, white, and blue decor. They'd host a big potluck and everyone would bring potato salad, and coleslaw, and baked beans, and watermelon, and a zillion different desserts. We ate til we were stuffed stupid.

They'd also open up their pool for the neighborhood kids to swim. This was a HUGE deal since they were the ONLY ones in the area with a real pool and we enviously eyeballed it all summer long from our three-foot Intex pool across the street. The pool was amazing - I still remember how the slick liner felt along the bottoms of my feet and the chlorinated water was always the perfect temperature. But the real treat was the fireworks.

Back then, our town didn't do a fireworks display so it was a huge deal to get a real fireworks show. And they'd bring the goods. It was magical.

Some of my favorite childhood memories.

Now as an adult, we are the ones who host the 4th of July celebration. Since my husband is a fire protection specialist and his good friend owns a professional pyrotechnic business here locally, we are the ones who try to make the 4th of July a memorable experience for our friends, families, and neighbors who don't hate the big booms.

Luckily, there are also lots of local fireworks displays around the tri-state for all families to enjoy. Here are the best ones around the tri-state. If you would like to add another to our list, just email me here!
