You Probably Won’t Believe What Illinois Just Banned
I've never been accused of being the smartest person in the room so there are likely very good reasons for this (that I clearly don't understand), but you probably won't believe what the state of Illinois just banned.
First, let me say that whether or not you are surprised by what has just been banned will depend heavily on how cynical you are about things Illinois does.
There's good news and bad news if you're a fan of this product which has been responsible for many a room lighting over the years. According to Illinois Policy, fluorescent bulbs will be illegal in Illinois. The good news is it won't take effect until the year 2026.
Here's some clarification. In the year 2026, you will not be able to purchase fluorescent bulbs anymore. In the year 2027, you will not be able to USE fluorescent bulbs. This is all part of the Clean Lighting Act in Illinois.
I should be clear that I'm not a huge fan of fluorescent bulbs, but I am extremely skeptical when the government forces us to use a different kind of lighting bulb. Remember when we were promised the the much more expensive LED bulbs would be so much more long-lasting than the incandescent bulbs? Mine sure haven't, but they remain much more expensive. Your mileage with bulbs might vary.
Consider this your friendly Illinois warning that your fluorescent bulbs are about to go the way of the hula-hoop. Happy lighting.
