This is one law that I would never want to see enforced. A bizarre Illinois law allegedly requires women to call bachelors a name that will disturb many.

When I saw this, I made the mistake of mentioning to my wife that I lived in Illinois when she met me. She was not amused. (*ahem*). I found a list of dumb laws and one on the books in Illinois is a bit ridiculous.

It says (and I quote) " A state law in Illinois mandates that all bachelors should be called master, not mister, when addressed by their female counterparts."

(*Awkward silence*)

I wanted to confirm this is true so my research led me to a story by WGN a few years ago mentioning the same dumb Illinois law, so I trust the many smart TV people there know what they're talking about.

When I see "laws" like this, I realize that many were made law during eras perhaps a century ago, but I'm having a hard time understanding what purpose this was supposed to serve. Did the guy who proposed this (since you know a lady didn't come up with this gem of an idea), did he also require that his friends call him "King"?

As a certified male who used to be a bachelor, there's no scenario where I should ever have been called "master" without bursting into outrageous laughter. I double-dare any Illinois bachelor these days to ask one of his lady friends to abide by this "law". If you do, please capture video of the moment for the rest of us to enjoy.
