If you are an iOS user, you may have recently noticed some unwanted events popping up in your calendar. I started getting notifications that there were Ugg and Michael Kors sales from an unknown sender who uses an unfamiliar Asian language. Hmm, not one my friends for sure!

Then, I noticed my friends were posting on Facebook about the unwanted spam events too. Apparently, it is originating from iCloud. Apple's operating systems scan email inboxes for messages that contain calendar invitations so that you don't have to dig through your emails to find them and puts them on your calendar for you with an alert. Nice for people with busy schedules but when spam gets through, it's not so nice. So what do we do?

Well, not much we can do really. I'm curious as to how this happened. Apple, care to comment?

First off, do not REJECT them. That shows the Spammer that you are monitoring them and you will get MORE from other email addresses. Gently filter them to a Junk Calendar.

  • TAP CALENDAR APP
  • CALENDARS
  • EDIT
  • ADD CALENDAR
  • MAKE NEW 'JUNK' CALENDAR
  • TAP DONE UNTIL BACK AT CALENDAR
  • TAP UNWANTED EVENT
  • CALENDAR
  • SELECT JUNK CALENDAR
  • DONE

The thought it that future events from the sender will go to Junk.

You can also turn off all notifications from iCloud.

Anyone who has your email can send you an iCloud invitation with only Spam Filters (above) to control it. Instead, you need to shut the notifications off in iCloud.

  • Log in to iCloud.com
  • Go to Calendar
  • Hit the cog button (bottom left corner)
  • Advanced
  • Change Invitations from "In-app notifications" to "receive email notifications" so you will receive calendar invite as emails to your iCloud account, rather than in your app.
