Project Homeless Connect is a one-day, one-stop event sponsored by community leaders and designed to provide various services and hospitality in a convenient one-stop model directly to people experiencing or at risk of homelessness.

More than 477 events in over 200 cities since 2004 are evidence of the rapid adoption of this innovation. Cities of every size from coast to coast have engaged in Project Homeless Connect events.

The fifth annual Vanderburgh Homeless Connect, sponsored by the Commission on Homelessness and other community partners, will take place on March 21, 2013, at The Centre, Brooks Exhibit Hall.

The 2012 event served 625 guest households through 60 vendors staffed with 276 professionals and more than 80 community volunteers.

People in our area who are homeless or near-homeless will be invited and welcomed to the event. This day of services will be shaped around the values of

Hospitality from the whole community, with consumers as welcomed Guests
Immediacy- same-day results for consumers
Community- voluntary civic participation
Partnership across agencies and sectors of the community
Excellence through rigorous evaluation and improvement

Vanderburgh Homeless Connect is a key to strategies in Destination: Home, the ten-year plan to end homelessness in Evansville and Vanderburgh County. Destination: Home aims to “maximize resources and access to services through coordination of existing services and providers.”

Vanderburgh Homeless Connect can not occur without the dedicated volunteers who will be engaged in various roles to make the event a success. Training will be provided to those who will be investing their time in welcoming, assisting and serving guest at the event.
