She previously worked her way up to the executive producer of a regional news network and, having reached her goal, temporarily suspended her broadcast career and enlisted in the Air Force. She is also a small business owner, lecturer, writer, and photographer, who often teaches classes and speaks on environmental, community involvement, and literacy. A recovered missing child, she has also speaks as an advocate for missing children's issues.
