I gotta say, August makes me kind of sad. Kids go back to school and it's a reminder that summer is on its way out. Booooo! But, one thing that I absolutely love about August is Germania Maennerchor's Volkfest! We go every year and it reminds me why I love being a German!

First of all, the food... When I can only get these delicacies annually, I savor them. I'm also a Polka music aficionado - who doesn't want to do the chicken dance? Finally, I love my motley crew of Germans! They are so fun and they know how to let the good times roll!

There's never enough kraut! Gettin' ready for #germaniamaennerchor #volksfest is coming!! Aug 3-5th

Three things you probably didn't know about Volksfest:

1. It began in 1934 here in Evansville but took a hiatus from 1941-1962 due to WWII.

2. It's held in a Ratskeller. (According to Wikipedia, a Rathskeller is German for a bar or restaurant located in the basement of a city hall (Rathaus) or nearby)

3. Many of the Evansville Germania Maennerchor hosts wear traditional German apparel including lederhosen.
