‘Fringe’ Season 5 Begins its “13-Hour Feature Film Saga” Tonight, Will You Be Watching?

Fringe Season 5 Premiere
FOX

It may be the beginning of the end for ‘Fringe‘ tonight, but since when has time ever been linear?  The critically-adored, yet ratings-challenged cult sci-fi hit kicks off its final season tonight with “Transilience Thought Unifier Model-11″ (Spoiler Alert: we’ve seen, and loved it), but series show-runner J.H. Wyman would almost prefer you think of the final episodes as a “13-hour feature film saga.”  Find out how things will be different in these last 13 episodes, and what surprises are still in store!

Though you may wish to shed a tear, mourn ‘Fringe’ do not, and miss ‘Fringe,’ do not, for tonight it transforms into a force to be reckoned with.  As series show-runner J.H. Wyman told reporters of the fifth and final season, ‘Fringe’ will keep laser-focused in its final 13 episodes and resolve the emotional journey of the story without getting lost in too many side-shows.

“I realized this is not a season for tricks and multiple universes, new introductions of things,” Wyman recently told TVLine. “So I had to do some soul-searching and say, ‘What would I like? What would I want, demand, if I had invested four years in this show?’”  Wyman stressed that though the final season would feature less deviations, there would still be plenty of ‘Fringe’ freakiness, especially since the 2036 setting allows for even more imagination with science and technology.

But speaking of technology, what of The Observers themselves, who seemed so benevolent in earlier seasons, only to turn around and used their advanced tech to take over the planet?  Wyman maintains that the bald-headed villains would be further explored, so as to make viewers understand their mentality.  Don’t expect any trips to the alternate universe however, as Wyman wants to keep the final hours focused on the characters we’ve come to know and love.

The battle begins tonight, so be sure to tune in for the final season of ‘Fringe’ tonight at 9:00 p.m., and tell us what you’re most looking forward to in the comments!
