Thanks to my buddy Eric at FOX44, I get the chance to see a number of shows each year before they actually air. For a TV junkie like me, that's one of the coolest 'perks' of my job. Today I got to see the first episode of the new FOX drama Red Band Society.

This is one of the few shows, new or otherwise, that I knew nothing about. I pride myself on at least knowing the general concept of most shows out there. But not this one - I had no clue what to expect. And to be completely honest with you, I may not have been interested if I knew what the show was about. Having said that, I'm really glad I gave the show a chance, and I really enjoyed it. So if you're like I was and you don't know a thing about Red Band Society, here's a quick description. It's like a modern-day version of The Breakfast Club set in a hospital.

The show follows a handful of youths who are residents at a hospital, for a variety of different ailments such as cancer, eating disorders and heart failure. Each character's role and personality is clearly defined by the show itself. For example, we have "Coma Boy" who serves as the narrator - there is also the "Rebel," the ""Mean Girl," and the "Hot Doc."

Red Band Society definitely falls into the drama genre. There aren't a whole bunch of laughs or action and violence, but it made me what to stick around to see what happens to these characters. I was most definitely surprised by that, and I plan on coming back to see the next episode.

Red Band Society premieres tonight at 8pm on FOX44. Check out the trailer below for a better idea of what to expect.
