It’s no secret that certain directors have a stable of actors they work with in an almost religious capacity. Tim Burton can’t seem to do anything without Johnny Depp or Helena Bonham Carter, Wes Anderson has Bill Murray and Jason Schwartzman, and so on, and so forth. So when HBO announced that famed mockumentary director Christopher Guest was to develop his own series, was it any surprise that Fred Willard, Michael McKean and Ed Begley Jr. would eventually be on board as well?

HBO’s upcoming Christopher Guest TV series ‘Family Tree‘ is starting to look a whole lot more Christopher Guest-y. Per The Hollywood Reporter, we’ve just learned that frequent Guest collaborators Fred Willard, Michael McKean and Ed Begley Jr. will all take recurring roles in the new series, which follow ‘Bridesmaids’ star Chris O’Dowd as a recently unemployed and single 30-year-old man who attempts to track down his real family after receiving a mysterious box from a previously unknown great aunt. Fellow Guest veteran Don Lake will also make an appearance.

The former trio have appeared in Guest’s most well-known work, including ‘For Your Consideration,’ ‘A Mighty Wind,’ ‘Best in Show’ and ‘This is Spinal Tap,’ while Lake appeared in all but ‘Spinal Tap.’

HBO picked up the half-hour comedy series for an eight-episode order last month, which will air simultaneously on the BBC2 overseas.

What say you? Are you happy to have members of Christopher Guest’s stable for the new TV venture? What other familiar faces would you like to see on ‘Family Tree’?
