1952 — Maurice (Rocket) Richard of the Montreal Canadiens scored his 325th career goal in a game against the Chicago Blackhawks at the Montreal Forum and broke the NHL record set in 1940 by Nels Stewart. (More info.)

1970 — Tom Dempsey of the New Orleans Saints, who was born without toes on his kicking foot, converted an NFL-record 63-yard field goal against the Detroit Lions at Tulane Stadium in New Orleans on this date.
