She’s used to breaking headlines, but today, Katie Couric is making some of her own.

According to a report from the AP, Couric is leaving her historic anchor post at ‘CBS Evening News’ after joining the program less than five years ago, in 2006. Her next move: a syndicated talk show, which is expected to launch in 2012.

Couric’s contract with CBS ends on June 4, though no word on when her official last broadcast will be.

In the meantime, spokespeople for CBS and Couric have not confirmed or denied the report.

“We’re having ongoing discussions with Katie Couric,” said CBS News spokeswoman Sonya McNair on Sunday. “We have no announcements to make at this time. Until we do, we will continue to decline comment on rumor or speculation.”

“Ditto,” said Matthew Hiltzik, Couric’s spokesman.

Couric, who in 2006 became the first woman to anchor a network TV evening newscast, often struggled in the ratings; ‘CBS Evening News’ regularly finished in third place behind NBC’s ‘Nightly News With Brian Williams’ and ABC’s ‘World News With Diane Sawyer.’

Still, the 54-year-old anchor, who previously co-hosted NBC’s morning program ‘Today,’ had a number of highlights in her tenure at CBS. This includes her now famous interview with former Vice Presidential candidate Sarah Palin, during which Palin failed to answer a number of questions, including which newspapers and magazines she read prior to her campaign.
