INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — Police say an Indianapolis man has admitted to fatally shooting his son during a dispute over breakfast. Fred Fleener III and his daughter say the fatal shooting Saturday at the family's home was the result of years of bullying and abuse by Fred Fleener IV. The son had bipolar disorder and other mental health issues.

HAMMOND, Ind. (AP) — An East Chicago councilman charged with murder has pleaded not guilty at an arraignment hearing in federal court. Robert Battle entered the plea Tuesday. He is accused of shooting Reimundo Camarillo Jr. to death in East Chicago while involved in cocaine trafficking. He also faces a federal drug charge.

GARY, Ind. (AP) — A Florida-based company has withdrawn its request for a zoning variance to build an 800-bed immigration detention facility near the Gary Chicago International Airport. The GEO Group had proposed building the detention center. The American Civil Liberties Union has criticized the company for human rights violations.

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (AP) — Purdue University police say someone stole a 12-foot-tall, 200-pound sculpture of a pencil. The sculpture is made of cedar, weighs about 200 pounds and is valued at about $9,000. The pencil sculpture was originally placed outside of Beering Hall near Purdue's Loeb Fountain in 2010 but was moved to Pickett Park during the current fall semester.
