MADISONVILLE, Ky. (AP) — Kentucky State Police say a Hopkins County deputy shot and injured a juvenile who drove a pickup truck at him.

According to police, a 15-year-old was speeding on Interstate 69 Saturday when deputies tried to pull him over.

The teenager attempted to flee, losing control of the vehicle at exit 116, where the truck went down an embankment.

Investigators say the deputy was attempting to apprehend the juvenile when the boy accelerated at the officer. The deputy fired his handgun, striking the driver. The teenager was taken to Baptist Hospital in Madisonville where he was listed in stable condition. A second juvenile passenger was not injured.

State police are continuing to investigate. Criminal charges against both juveniles are pending.
