Celebrate World Down Syndrome Day Today with Ice Cream from SMILE on Down Syndrome
Today, March 21st, is World Down Syndrome Day, and SMILE on Down Syndrome is inviting you to celebrate with them by enjoying an Ice Cream Social at WIRED Auditorium in downtown Evansville this evening!
According to the World Down Syndrome Day website, the date of March 21st was selected "to signify the uniqueness of the triplication (trisomy) of the 21st chromosome (i.e. 3/21) which causes Down syndrome," and has been recognized by various countries around the world since 2006. In 2012, the United Nations General Assembly officially recognized the date on a global scale.
The SMILE Ice Cream Social kicks off this evening at 5:15 after the organization's dance troupe practice and will continue until 6:15. RSVP's are required and can be done by e-mailing Nikki Davis, or sending a text to 812-449-4118.
