Great food for a great cause.

While skimming through the various e-cards, meme's, and boo-hooing about how unfair life is in my Facebook news feed, I noticed a flyer an Evansville police officer, and good friend since 1st grade, posted on his timeline about a fundraiser for local firefighter, Captain Eric Eifert, who has accumulated some steep medical bills as he fights what is only described in the flyer as a "medical condition". The flyer doesn't get specific as to what the condition is, only that treatment has required "costly travel and other out-of-pocket expenses that insurance will not cover" for whatever reason.

As anyone knows, firefighters and police officers are just co-workers, each department sees themselves as a family and when one of their own needs assistance, they band together to do whatever they can to help get that person back on their feet, and Captain Eifert is no different.

To help raise money for the Captain's medical bills, his firefighting brothers will be holding a barbecue benefit, offering cooked pork butts and ribs to anyone who wants them. Orders are being accepted now online by PayPal or credit card at bbqbenefit.com with pork butts going for $25 each and ribs for $22. Orders can also be placed by e-mailing orders@bbqbenefit.com, with pick up taking place on Saturday, December 1st from 10am-Noon at Fulton Park beside the Evansville Firefighters Credit Union.
