A software glitch that impacted all Commonwealth Bank ATMs in Sydney, Australia yesterday allowed customers to withdraw thousands of dollars, even if they had no more than a buck in their accounts.

News of the "free money" quickly traveled throughout social media, and there were soon large crowds around Commonwealth ATMs throughout the city.

The bank insists that anyone who took more than their account held had simply "overdrawn," and would be responsible for paying the money back.

Police are considering taking action against those who tried to exploit the malfunctioning ATMs, and have already charged two men with "dishonestly obtaining financial advantage by deception."

Further proof that there is no such thing as free money.
