From the office of Evansville Mayor Lloyd Winnecke

The next Traveling City Hall meeting will be a continuation of the Mayor’s Community Conversations with a new focus on employment opportunities and training high school students and adult workers for high-tech and skilled jobs. The meeting will be held on Wednesday, February 25, from 5:30 to 7 p.m. at the Evansville Vanderburgh School Corp. Career & Technical Center, 1901 Lynch Rd.

“During our recent conversations with the community we heard time and time again about the need for high-paying jobs. We also learned that there are thousands of good-paying jobs currently available in Southwest Indiana for high-tech and skilled labor,” said Mayor Lloyd Winnecke. “The goal of our administration is to raise awareness in the community about current job openings and training opportunities for building skills.”

As a result, the City of Evansville and WorkOne Southwest Indiana have formed a new partnership to spotlight some of the fastest growing, high-wage jobs in our region. The Office of Mayor Lloyd Winnecke will post a weekly listing of job openings and hiring events from WorkOne titled “Hot Jobs in Southwest Indiana” on the City’s website (www.evansville.in.gov), on Civic Center Complex bulletin boards and on social media outlets Facebook and Twitter. WorkOne will also join the monthly Traveling City Hall program as a regular guest.

The February Traveling City Hall Community Conversations program will feature presentations by Jim Heck, Executive Director of Grow Southwest Indiana Workforce; Dan Ulrich, Director of Career, Technical and Adult Education, Evansville-Vanderburgh School Corporation; Michael Szakaly, Dean of Applied Sciences, Engineering and Technology, Ivy Tech Community College; Cynthia Moore, Dean of Frank L. Hilton, M.D. School of Health Sciences, Ivy Tech Community College; and George Fithian, Executive Director of Administrative Services, City of Evansville.

Following the presentations the public will be able to talk one-on-one with the speakers, Mayor Winnecke and city department heads about specific city government-related issues or share ideas. Tours of the EVSC Career and Technical Center will also be available.
