Stanley Recalls 2.6 Million Travel Mugs Over Burn Hazard

Stanley has issued a recall for 2.6 million of its Switchback and Trigger Action travel mugs due to a burn hazard. This recall affects all mugs sold in the United States between June 2016 and December 2024. These stainless steel mugs, featuring double-walled construction and a polypropylene lid, were available in 12 oz., 16 oz., and 20 oz. sizes, and came in colors like white, black, and green. The Stanley logo is prominently displayed on the front and bottom of the mugs, with the specific product identification numbers also printed on the bottom.

Why the Recall?

The recall was initiated because the lid’s threads can shrink when exposed to heat and torque, potentially causing the lid to detach during use. This defect poses a significant burn risk. Stanley has reported 91 incidents worldwide, including 16 in the U.S., with 38 burn injuries globally. Two of these injuries occurred in the U.S., and 11 cases required medical attention.

Next Steps for Consumers

If you own one of the recalled mugs, it’s essential to stop using it immediately. Stanley is offering a free replacement lid, including shipping. Customers can contact Stanley toll-free at 866-792-5445 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. ET Monday through Friday. Alternatively, visit their recall website at stanley1913TMrecall.expertinquiry.com or head to stanley1913.com to submit a claim or learn more.
