New Evansville Public Library Art Exhibit Celebrates History and Memories

Art and History Come Together in Evansville

What Should Be Remembered? features 25 original works of art, each exploring the idea of preserving memories that matter. Some pieces reflect important moments in American history, while others focus on meaningful experiences from the artists' own lives or the history of our local community.

The Inspiration Behind "What Should Be Remembered?”

The exhibit was created as part of the nation's celebration of the 250th anniversary of the United States, encouraging artists to capture people, places, moments, and emotions that deserve to be remembered for generations to come.

When and Where to See the Exhibit

What Should Be Remembered? is on display in the second-floor rotunda at EVPL Central in downtown Evansville. Guests can view the exhibit Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., now through Friday, July 31^st. And if something catches your eye, many of the pieces are available for purchase directly from the artists.

But the celebration of art doesn't end with the exhibit. Guests are invited to a closing reception on Saturday, August 1, at 4 pm, where you’ll have a chance to meet many of the featured artists and learn more about the inspiration behind their work.

After the reception, stick around for an evening of live music during Concert on the Lawn, featuring Elliott and Loralye. The free performance takes place on the EVPL Central Greenspace from 6 to 8 p.m.

The exhibit is part of The Arts at EVPL Series, a program supported by the EVPL Foundation that brings visual, literary, performing, and culinary arts experiences to the community throughout the year.
