The Evansville Public Library is Much More Than Just Books

For a long time now, I have been a vocal supporter and proponent of the Evansville Vanderburgh Public Library (EVPL) system – and I am someone who admittedly does NOT read. Nope, I love the library because of all the other things you can get, besides books. What makes the EVPL so beneficial, especially given the skyrocketing costs of every doggone thing, is that their resources and services are FREE.

I don’t know if you’ve ever thought about just how much money you could save by “renting” items from the library instead of paying for them somewhere else, but apparently, you can now find out.

See Your Savings Right on the EVPL Receipt

The EVPL recently shared a picture above of one of their receipts, which, as you would expect, has some basic information – the branch location, phone number, and website. Just below that, you’ll notice some rather new information – how much money the visitor saved on this trip, along with how much they’ve saved this year, and how much they’ve saved since the beginning of their membership.

I’ll admit, I haven’t been to the library in a while, but I don’t remember ever seeing this on my receipts in the past. Is this new? Do you have to specifically ask for it? The EVPL commented on this picture, saying, “This feature is on receipts when you check out from one of our Circulation Desks.”

How Long Has the EVPL Been Tracking Your Savings?

I scrolled down a little further and found even more information from another EVPL comment. Apparently, the last dollar amount is the amount you’ve saved since 2023, when the library started keeping track. So it’s not exactly “since you began using the library.” Regardless, I think it’s super cool to see the real difference the library can make in your finances.
